Oh chocolate and peanut butter. It may not have been love at first bite, but you’re growing on me. I know I said I’ve never really been a fan, but lately I think I’m getting there.

This fudge sauce may be part of the cause. Just three simple ingredients – bittersweet chocolate, natural peanut butter, and whipping cream, and you have a sauce that rivals anything you’d find at an ice cream shop. It’s like a peanut butter cup in sauce form.

I recently made this for an “adult” ice cream social I went to (Read: sundaes and cocktails, genius!) and it was fantastic over vanilla ice cream, but would be easily heavenly over dark chocolate or banana ice cream. It’s also great as a dipper for fresh fruit, in case you’re looking for something a bit healthier to balance out the richness of the sauce. But I personally think it’s worth enjoying over ice cream, even if that does mean a little extra gym time. This also seems like the kind of stuff that could take the edge off a bad day or an emotional breakup. Not that I’m suggesting you eat your feelings. But it is certainly cheaper than therapy and less troublesome than alcohol.
Ingredients:
-1 3/4 cups heavy whipping cream
-8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
-1/4 cup creamy natural peanut butter
Method:
Heat the cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it begins to bubble around the edges. Turn off the heat and add the chocolate. Cover the pan and let sit for 5 minutes. Add peanut butter and whisk until smooth.
Let cool slightly and serve. It can be reheated later using a double boiler or more conveniently, the microwave.

Is there any better combination?!
Yummmm. Gorgeous pictures, and fantastic recipe. When you’re using those two ingredients, the simpler the better
.
By the way, I LOVE the idea of an “adult” ice cream social with cocktails. Brilliant!
Seriously, why have I not thought to try something like this before? It sounds like the perfect dessert sauce, like it was meant to be!
Welcome to the dark side (the side that loves chocolate and peanut butter, that is!). If I had an adorable little pitcher like that, I’d make some sauce to go with everything….
Oh yea!! This sauce looks perfect! I’m glad you’re crossing over to the dark side of peanut butter and chocolate!
PS: I also despise olives!
You can’t go wrong with PB and chocolate. This is a must to include in any recipe collection! Nicely done!
this sounds much better than alcohol in my book
in fact, it sounds down right perfect! i’ve always been a fan…
An amazing combination! We have a neighborhood ice cream social coming up soon and I would love to make this!
I wonder if peanut butter will work with white choclate–let me know if you ever try it?
Also, do you have a good banana ice cream recipe? (I made David Lebovitz’s roasted bananas ice cream which was good, but I’m still on the hunt…)
I love the idea of an adult ice cream social! And I was born with a strong love for peanut butter that I hope never disappears. This sounds absolutely lovely!
I might just have to make this. It sounds delicious! Yum.
I firmly better peanut butter’s best counterpart is chocolate… not jelly!
What a fun time that would be — ice cream sundaes and cocktails! A great idea for a party. I’m going to have to remember that for next summer.
