VeganMoFo

by Kelly on September 29, 2008

Never heard of VeganMoFo? I hadn’t either until a couple of days ago. It stands for Vegan Month of Food and for all of October, participating bloggers will be writing about all things vegan. The Post Punk Kitchen explains it like this:

The idea is to write as much as you can for the month of October about vegan food. The blog entries can be about anything food related – your love of tongs, your top secret tofu pressing techniques, the first time your mom cooked vegan for you, vegan options in Timbuktu – you get the idea.

While I am not vegan, like many other omnivores I see the value in eating meals free of animal products and thanks to great cookbooks like Eat, Drink & Be Vegan and Veganomicon and inspiring vegan blogs, I know this can not only be easy but delicious and creative too. Thus my goal for the next month is to cook and bake only vegan things. It’s going to be a challenge (especially considering I volunteered to make a friend a birthday cake), but after watching as Mark and Heather from Hangry Pants successfully went meat-free for 30 days, I think I will succeed. Wish me luck and if you know any great vegan yellow cake recipes, PLEASE let me know!

Hi Kelly, I saw your comment on my blog:

Would the vanilla-yogurt pound cake recipe from Veganomicon work?

So cool! Best of luck. You should go to Have Cake, Will Travel. She makes the best vegan stuff. Well, it looks good. I haven’t actually eaten it. :)

Both of those cookbooks are amazing! I have yet to make a vegan yellow cake, but the coconut cake from Eat, Drink, and Be Vegan is to die for.

Ooh. I might have to try that coconut cake. Unfortunately, my yellow cake was a completely failed effort. I’ve been working on the post but haven’t updated yet. Horrible. Pitiful. So sad. I think it had less to do with the recipe than my own ability to do basic math.
